Al-Hijjr 3 of 6
Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 Said Allah, “Therefore exit from Paradise, for you are an outcast.” 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 He said, “My Lord! Grant me respite till the day when they will all be raised.” 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
