The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And raised couches; 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
