This surely is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe: 192 which the truthful spirit has carried down 193 Upon thy heart, that thou mayst be (one) of the warners, 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 And indeed it is mentioned in the earlier Books. 196 And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel? 197 And had We sent it down upon a person other than an Arab, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so, We have caused it to enter into the hearts of harmdoers: 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful torment; 201 It shall come unto them on a sudden, and they shall not perceive. 202 They will therefore say, “Will we get some respite?” 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 Tell Me, if We do let them enjoy for years, 205 And then cometh that which they were promised, 206 what will it then avail them, the enjoyment of days they were given? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 it behoves them not, neither are they able. 211 Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed. 212 Therefor invoke not with Allah another god, lest thou be one of the doomed. 213 And warn thy clan, thy nearest kin. 214 And be kind to him who follows you of the believers. 215 then, if they disobey thee, say, 'I am quit of that you do.' 216 And rely on the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who sees you when you stand up. 218 and observes your movements among those who prostrate themselves. 219 He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Should I tell you to whom the satans come? 221 They descend on every sinful, false one. 222 Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. 223 And the poets -- the perverse follow them; 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 and they say what they do not do? 226 except those who believed and acted righteously and remembered Allah much, and when they themselves were subjected to wrong, they exacted retribution no more than to the extent of the wrong? Soon will the wrong-doers know the end that they shall reach. 227
