[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 And orchards and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
