He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
