The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
