The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
