The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
