The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
