The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 It is We who sent down the Koran, and We watch over it. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And there never came an apostle to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
