The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the House inhabited 4 and the uplifted roof 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
