The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
