The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
