Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Join My servants. 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
