They are asking thee concerning the Spirit. Say: The Spirit is by command of my Lord, and of knowledge ye have been vouchsafed but little. 85 And if We so willed, We could indeed take away whatever We have revealed unto thee, and in that [state of need] thou wouldst find none to plead in thy behalf before Us. 86 Except for Mercy from thy Lord: for his bounty is to thee (indeed) great. 87 Say: 'If men and jinn banded together to produce the like of this Koran, they would never produce its like, not though they backed one another.' 88 And indeed We have fully explained to mankind, in this Quran, every kind of similitude, but most mankind refuse (the truth and accept nothing) but disbelief. 89 And they say: we shall by no means believe in thee until thou causest for us to gush forth from the earth a fountain. 90 or thou have a garden of date-palms and vines and cause rivers to gush forth in their midst in a sudden rush, 91 or cause the sky to fall on us in pieces as you claimed, or bring Allah and the angels before us, face to face; 92 Or you have a house of gold or you ascend into the sky. And [even then], we will not believe in your ascension until you bring down to us a book we may read." Say, "Exalted is my Lord! Was I ever but a human messenger?" 93
