Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 The others suggested holding Moses and his brother off and sending to all the cities 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 You would take revenge on us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Lord, pour patience upon us and let us die as submitters (Muslims)' 126
