He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and purified. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
