The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
