The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
