The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
God the Almighty always says the truth.
