We seized Pharaoh's people with years of drought and scarcity of fruit so that they might remember. 130 But when good (times) came, they said, "This is due to us;" When gripped by calamity, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Moses and those with him! Behold! in truth the omens of evil are theirs in Allah's sight, but most of them do not understand! 131 And they said: Whatever sign you may bring to us to charm us with it-- we will not believe in you. 132 We sent upon them widespread calamities: floods of locusts, lice, frogs, and blood. All were distinct miracles but these criminals all the time remained proud. 133 And when the punishment fell on them they said: "O Musa (Moses)! Invoke your Lord for us because of His Promise to you. If you will remove the punishment from us, we indeed shall believe in you, and we shall let the Children of Israel go with you." 134 Consequently whenever We lifted the punishment from them for a term which they must reach, they used to then turn away. 135 We took revenge on them for their rejecting Our miracles, by drowning them in the sea, but they were not aware of (reality). 136 And We made a people, considered weak (and of no account), inheritors of lands in both east and west, - lands whereon We sent down Our blessings. The fair promise of thy Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because they had patience and constancy, and We levelled to the ground the great works and fine buildings which Pharaoh and his people erected (with such pride). 137 When We brought the children of Israel across the sea, and they came to a people who were devoted to their idols, they said: "O Moses, make us also a god like theirs." "You are ignorant," he replied. 138 That which they are engaged upon shall be shattered and all their works are vain. 139 "Do you want me to seek for you," he said, "a god other than God, when He has exalted you over all the nations of the world? 140 And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment - killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord. 141
