۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 Therefore, on that Day they will all share Our punishment. 33 That is how We deal with sinners. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 after we die and become dust and bones, we shall be brought to judgement?'" 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 Then he will look and see him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
