When you murdered someone, each one of you tried to accuse others of being guilty. However, God made public what you were hiding. 72 We had pronounced already: "Slay (the murderer) for (taking a life)." Thus God preserves life from death and shows you His signs that you may understand. 73 Then, even after that, your hearts were hardened and became as rocks, or worse than rocks, for hardness. For indeed there are rocks from out which rivers gush, and indeed there are rocks which split asunder so that water floweth from them. And indeed there are rocks which fall down for the fear of Allah. Allah is not unaware of what ye do. 74 ۞ Are you then so eager that they should believe you, seeing there is a party of them that heard God's word, and then tampered with it, and that after they had comprehended it, wittingly? 75 And when they meet those who believe, they say 'We believe'; and when they go privily one to another, they say, 'Do you speak to them of what God has revealed to you, that they may thereby dispute with you before your Lord? Have you no understanding?' 76 Are they then unaware that Allah knoweth that which they keep hidden and that which they proclaim? 77 Among them are heathens who know nothing of the Book but only what they wish to believe, and are only lost in fantasies. 78 Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say:"This is from Allah," to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby. 79 And they say: "The fire will most certainly not touch us for more than a limited number of days." Say [unto them]: "Have you received a promise from God - for God never breaks His promise - or do you attribute to God something which you cannot know?" 80 Whoever earns evil and becomes engrossed in sin shall be doomed to Hell and abide therein for ever. 81 As for the righteously striving believers, they will be among the people of Paradise wherein they will live forever. 82
