You should also recall to mind another incident: You slew a man and began to dispute about the murder and accuse one another of it, but Allah had decreed that what you were trying to hide should be disclosed. 72 So We said: "Strike him (the dead man) with a piece of it (the cow)." Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) so that you may understand. 73 And yet, after all this, your hearts hardened and became like rocks, or even harder: for, behold, there are rocks from which streams gush forth; and behold, there are some from which, when they are cleft, water issues; and behold, there are some that fall down for awe of God. And God is not unmindful of what you do! 74 ۞ Do you then hope that they will believe in you when some of them have already heard the word of God and then, after having understood it, they knowingly perverted it? 75 And when they meet those who believe, they say 'We believe'; and when they go privily one to another, they say, 'Do you speak to them of what God has revealed to you, that they may thereby dispute with you before your Lord? Have you no understanding?' 76 Know they (Jews) not that Allah knows what they conceal and what they reveal? 77 And among them are unlettered ones who do not know the Scripture except in wishful thinking, but they are only assuming. 78 Therefore woe is to those who write the Book with their hands; and they then claim, “This is from Allah” in order to gain an abject (worldly) price for it; therefore woe to them for what their hands have written, and woe to them for what they earn with it. 79 And they say, 'The Fire shall not touch us save a number of days.' Say: 'Have you taken with God a covenant? God will not fail in His covenant; or say you things against God of which you know nothing? 80 Why, they who have earned the wages of sin and are enclosed in error, are people of Hell, where they will abide for ever. 81 But those who have faith and work righteousness, they are companions of the Garden: Therein shall they abide (For ever). 82
