A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem-Saad. (Alphabets of the Arabic language; Allah and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 A DIVINE WRIT has been bestowed from on high upon thee - and let there be no doubt about this in thy heart - in order that thou mayest warn [the erring] thereby, and [thus] admonish the believers: 2 Follow what has been sent down to you by your Lord and do not follow any protector other than Him. How seldom you take heed. 3 How many a city We have destroyed! Our might came upon it at night, or while they took their ease in the noontide, 4 And when Our Might fell upon them they only said: 'We have indeed been harmdoers' 5 We will question those to whom Our Message was sent, as We shall question the Messengers. 6 And verily, We shall recount their whole story with knowledge, for We were never absent (at any time or place). 7 The balance that day will be true (to nicety): those whose scale (of good) will be heavy, will prosper: 8 but he whose scales are light those have lost their souls because they were harmful towards Our verses. 9 And We have given you (mankind) power in the earth, and appointed for you therein livelihoods. Little give ye thanks! 10
