A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Lam. Mim. Sad. 1 This Book has been sent down to you, let there be no heaviness in your heart about it, so that you may warn by means of it and it is a reminder to the believers. 2 (People), follow whatever is revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other guardians besides Him. However, you pay very little attention (to Our words) 3 And a great number of towns (their population) We destroyed (for their crimes). Our torment came upon them (suddenly) by night or while they were sleeping for their afternoon rest. 4 And when Our scourge fell upon them their only cry was: 'We are indeed transgressors.' 5 We will question those to whom Our Message was sent, as We shall question the Messengers. 6 Then surely, We shall narrate unto them (their whole story) with knowledge, and indeed We were not absent. 7 And true will be the weighing on that Day; and those whose weight [of good deeds] is heavy in the balance - it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state; 8 And as for those whose scale will be light, they are those who will lose their ownselves (by entering Hell) because they denied and rejected Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 9 And We have given you (mankind) power in the earth, and appointed for you therein livelihoods. Little give ye thanks! 10
