And We sent no Prophet unto any town (and they denied him), but We seized its people with suffering from extreme poverty (or loss in wealth) and loss of health and calamities, so that they might humiliate themselves (and repent to Allah). 94 We then replaced their misfortune with well-being until they were relieved and began saying, "Our fathers had also experienced good and bad days." Suddenly, We struck them (with torment) while they were all unaware (of what was happening). 95 And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning." 96 Do the people of the cities feel secure Our might shall not come upon them at night while they are sleeping? 97 Or are the people of the townships then secure from the coming of Our wrath upon them in the daytime while they play? 98 Do they feel secure against God's devising? No one feels secure against God's devising except for those doomed to ruin. 99
