Whenever We sent a prophet to a town, We took up its people in suffering and adversity, in order that they might learn humility. 94 But when We changed hardship to ease, and they rose and prospered, (they forgot Our favours) and said: "Our ancestors had also known suffering and joy." So We caught them unawares. 95 But if the people of these regions had believed and feared God, We would surely have showered on them blessings of the heavens and the earth; but they only denied, and We punished them for their deeds. 96 Do the people of the cities feel secure Our might shall not come upon them at night while they are sleeping? 97 Or else did they feel secure against its coming in broad daylight while they played about (care-free)? 98 Did they then feel secure against the plan of Allah?- but no one can feel secure from the Plan of Allah, except those (doomed) to ruin! 99
