The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 The others suggested holding Moses and his brother off and sending to all the cities 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 You would take revenge on us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Lord, pour patience upon us and let us die as submitters (Muslims)' 126
