The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and then I shall most certainly crucify you, in great numbers, all together!" 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
