Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
