The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
