The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
