Al-A 'araaf 14 of 24
The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
