Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 The others suggested holding Moses and his brother off and sending to all the cities 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And We inspired Moosa that, “Put forth your staff”; it immediately began swallowing up their fabrications. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
