And we straitened Pharaoh's folk with famine and dearth of fruits, that peradventure they might heed. 130 But whenever good befell them, they said: This is ours; and whenever evil smote them they ascribed it to the evil auspices of Moses and those with him. Surely their evil auspice was only with Allah. But most of them knew not. 131 And they said: Whatever portent thou bringest wherewith to bewitch us, we shall not put faith in thee. 132 Then We afflicted them with a great flood and locusts, and the lice, and the frogs, and the blood. All these were distinct signs and yet they remained haughty. They were a wicked people. 133 Each time a scourge struck them they, said: 'O Moses! Pray for us to your Lord on the strength of the prophethood He has bestowed upon you. Surely, if you remove this scourge from us, we will truly believe in you, and will let the Children of Israel go with you.' 134 But every time We removed the penalty from them according to a fixed term which they had to fulfil,- Behold! they broke their word! 135 Therefore We inflicted retribution on them and drowned them in the sea because they rejected Our signs and were heedless of them. 136 We gave the suppressed people the blessed eastern and western regions as their inheritance. Thus, the promises of your Lord to the children of Israel all came true because of the patience which they exercised. He destroyed all the establishments of the Pharaoh and his people. 137 And We took the Children of Israel across the sea; then they came upon a people intent in devotion to [some] idols of theirs. They said, "O Moses, make for us a god just as they have gods." He said, "Indeed, you are a people behaving ignorantly. 138 That which they are engaged upon shall be shattered and all their works are vain. 139 He said: What! shall I seek for you a god other than Allah while He has made you excel (all) created things? 140 And recall what time We delivered you from the house of Fir'awn perpetrating on you terrible torment, slaying your sons and letting your women live, and therein was a trial from your Lord, tremendous. 141
