The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Soon will the time come when the unbelievers will wish they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 It is We who sent down the Koran, and We watch over it. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
