The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
