The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
