The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
