The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
