The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And yet they say: "You, to whom this Exposition has been sent are surely possessed of the Devil. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
