The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15
