The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
