The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would surely say: intoxicated have been our sights; aye! we are a people enchanted. 15
