The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
