The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15
