Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 When your Lord said to the angels: 'See, I am creating a mortal from clay of molded mud. 28 When I have shaped him and ran My created soul in him fall down prostrating towards him'. 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 [Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 God said, "Then get out of here; for you are accursed, 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 He said: This is a right way with Me: 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44
