AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 But when your Lord said to the angels: "I am verily going to create a human being from fermented clay dried tingling hard; 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 God asked him, "What is the matter with you, that you are not among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 He said, “My Lord! I swear by the fact that You sent me astray, I shall distract them in the earth, and I shall lead all of them astray.” 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
