Indeed We created man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud. 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 When I have formed him and breathed My spirit into him, fall down in prostration before him," 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 Allah said: "Then, verily, you are of those reprieved, 37 for an appointed time." 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 Except, among them, Your chosen servants." 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates and each gate is assigned for a certain group of people. 44
